What Do Home Warranties Cover?

Your home warranty covers the things in your home that you and your family rely on most, like the refrigerator, dishwasher, heating and AC systems, and water heater. Life gets frustrating when these types of items stop working and interrupt your day. But a home warranty provides peace of mind because when covered systems and appliances inevitably break down, you’ve got a plan.

See the plan agreement for coverage details, including service fees, limitations and exclusions. Coverage limits and charges for non-covered items may apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, we cover home system and appliance breakdowns that occur due to normal wear and tear. For example, if a hose on your dishwasher breaks due to normal wear and tear, we would fix it for you, but if a child stands on the dishwasher and breaks the door, we would not cover it because the damage was not caused due to normal wear and tear. The level of coverage you receive also depends on the home warranty plan you select. We have 3 home warranty plans to choose from depending on your home’s needs.

If we determine that your covered home system or appliance cannot be repaired, we will replace it for you and remove the broken item at no additional charge. You can also opt for a cash out payment of a similar or equal value replacement.

There are several factors that impact how long it takes to fix your covered item, such as the nature of your issue(s) and availability of parts. Our goal is to assign you a Pro as quickly as possible so we can diagnose the issue, order any parts needed to make the repair, and fix your covered appliance or system so your home is running smoothly again.

Yes, we absolutely cover multiple systems and appliances within the same home. All you have to do is select the right home warranty plan for your household's needs and budget. Our ShieldSilver™  plan protects the major systems that keep your home running, the ShieldGold™ plan covers the major systems and appliances that you rely on day in and day out, and the ShieldPlatinum™ plan truly takes the hassle out of home ownership with coverage for your major systems and appliances, and premium member features.

Yes, you can purchase additional coverage for your guest house as long as it is under 750 square feet. The plan coverage and features you purchased for your main home will extend to your guest house.

AC units are covered in all three of our home warranty plans - ShieldSilver™, ShieldGold™ , and ShieldPlatinum™ - up to $5,000 per system per agreement term. American Home Shield will cover up to $1,000 should the Pro need to cut through concrete to access any system components. Geothermal AC systems also have a coverage limit of $1,500. To see a full list of AC coverage details, please visit our AC coverage page.
