All three of our plans offer coverage for parts of your home's major systems.
Appliances like refrigerators and washers and dryers, along with the home systems listed above, are covered in both our ShieldGold™ and ShieldPlatinum™ plans.
Yes, we cover home system and appliance breakdowns that occur due to normal wear and tear. For example, if a hose on your dishwasher breaks due to normal wear and tear, we would fix it for you, but if a child stands on the dishwasher and breaks the door, we would not cover it because the damage was not due to normal wear and tear. The level of coverage you receive also depends on the home warranty plan you select. The ShieldSilver™ plan covers 14 major home systems, the ShieldGold™ plan covers up to 23 home systems and kitchen and laundry appliances (up to $3,000 per covered appliance), and the ShieldPlatinum™ plan covers up to 23 home systems and kitchen and laundry appliances (up to $6,000 per covered appliance) with extra budget-protection benefits like unlimited A/C refrigerant, roof leak repair coverage, and more.
In addition, other limitations and exclusions may apply. View a sample contract for more information or see our Home Systems, Appliances, and Roof Leak Repair, Electronics Protection, and Additional Coverage pages for specific coverage details.
If we determine that your covered home system or appliance cannot be repaired, we will replace it for you and remove the broken item at no additional charge. You can also opt for cash in lieu of a similar or equal value replacement to take advantage of our Appliance Discount Program and upgrade your system or appliance. Our Appliance Discount Program provides members with exclusive discounts on top appliance brands and current models to help your dollars go further.
There are several factors that will impact how long it will take to fix your covered item such as the nature of your issue(s) and availability of parts. Our goal is to assign your contractor as quickly as possible so we can diagnose the issue, order any parts needed to make the repair, and fix your covered appliance or system so your home is running smoothly again.
Yes, we absolutely cover multiple systems and appliances within the same home. All you have to do is select the right home warranty plan for your household's needs and budget. Our ShieldSilver™ plan protects the major systems that keep your home running, the ShieldGold™ plan covers the major systems and appliances that you rely on day in and day out, and the ShieldPlatinum™ plan truly takes the hassle out of home ownership with coverage for your major systems and appliances, and premium features such as roof leak repair coverage, double the appliance coverage (up to $6,000 per appliance), unlimited A/C refrigerant, and one free HVAC tune-up.
*Please note that a home warranty plan purchased through a real estate transaction will have different coverage limitations and exclusions.
There is no fee for installing covered items or removing the old ones from your home. However, it is impotant to note that if the replacement cost exceeds your plan's coverage limit (ShieldSilver - no dollar limit on covered parts for systems, ShieldGold™ - no dollar limit on covered parts for systems/$3,000 per covered appliance, ShieldPlatinum™ -no dollar limit on covered parts for systems/$6,000 per covered appliance/$1,500 per contract term for roof leak repairs), you will be responsible for the remaining amount.
Yes, you can purchase additional coverage for your guest house as long as it is under 750 square feet. The plan coverage and features you purchased for your main home will extend to your guest house.
A/C units are covered in all three of our home warranty plans - ShieldSilver™, ShieldGold™, and ShieldPlatinum™ - and although there is no dollar limit on covered parts, there are specific limitations and exclusions. American Home Shield will cover up to $1,000 should the contractor need to cut through concrete to access any system components. Geothermal A/C systems also have a coverage limit of $1,500.
