Heating Systems Warranty Coverage

If staying warm and cozy at home during cooler weather is your thing, thank your heating system. Having the right coverage can make it a lot easier to keep it up and running. Rather than panicking when you discover a covered problem, you can simply place a service request online or call American Home Shield®.

The covered item limit is $5,000. However, the covered item limit for the following types of heating systems is $1,500: glycol, hot water, or steam circulating heating system, any water heater which supplies heated water to such system(s), geothermal and/or water source heat pumps. American Home Shield will cover up to $1,000 should the contractor need to cut through concrete to access any HVAC system components.

All parts and components of permanently installed heating systems up to a 5 ton capacity of the following types:
Geothermal units
Package units
If repair or replacement is needed, we'll cover upgrades to maintain compatibility and/or compliance with SEER, HSPF, or refrigerant standards
Heat pumps
Mini-splits
Hot water or steam circulating heat
Electric baseboard
Not Covered:
Humidifiers and dehumidifiers
All parts and components of geothermal systems located outside or under the covered home’s main foundation
Fuel storage tanks
Window or portable heating units
Radiant cable heat
Fireplaces, grain, pellet, coal or wood heating units
Home purification systems
Ultraviolet lights

Yes, all 3 of our home warranty plan options cover parts and components of heating systems up to $5,000 per unit during your 1-year agreement term. Please see the plan agreement for more detailed coverage information, limitations and exclusions.

All 3 of our home warranty plans cover parts and components up to $5,000 per heating unit (per 1-year agreement term) for forced air (gas, electrical, oil), geothermal, wall mounted heaters, floor furnaces, package units, heat pumps, and more. Yes. We cover parts and components of older systems and appliances no matter their age, as well as unknown, preexisting breakdowns. You can also purchase an American Home Shield home warranty without an inspection or maintenance records. 

If we can’t repair your covered heating system, we’ll replace it subject to your plan's $5,000 per system limit and the other limitations and exclusions included in your plan agreement.

Once your coverage begins (30 days after you sign up for your new home warranty plan) you can request service 24/7 online via MyAccount or call 1-888-691-2854 during standard business hours to request service.

With an American Home Shield home warranty, you’ll receive heating warranty coverage for the length of your plan agreement, which is typically one year and renewable.

When you experience a covered issue or breakdown, you can easily place a service request online via MyAccount, pay your preset service fee, and we’ll assign a Pro to your request.The Pro will come to your home to diagnose the issue repair it based on the coverage and limitations in your plan agreement.
