For members who purchased a home warranty for their current home, there is a 30-day activation period before you can start using your plan. If you purchased your warranty through a real estate transaction, your warranty is active at closing.*

What Is a Home Warranty?
A home warranty covers (or helps pay) the costs for repairing or replacing systems and appliances when they stop working. The service contract for a home warranty is one year. Home warranties are meant to complement your homeowner’s insurance to cover things that insurance doesn’t, such as improper maintenance and normal wear-and-tear.

Why should I have a home warranty?
It’s inevitable. At some point, your appliances and home systems will likely break. And American Home Shield is one of the best ways to protect you when it happens. If an item can be fixed, we help cover the cost of repairs. If it can’t be repaired, we replace it. Our plans are a great way to save money, as well as time spent looking for help.
Is it worth having a Home Warranty?
Take this into consideration. If you have an air conditioning unit that needs to be repaired or replaced, the costs from your pocket can be up to $3,800 if you don’t have a home warranty. However, if your air conditioner is covered by American Home Shield, your costs would only be your pre-determined Service Fee – $100 or $125. Or we will replace it if the unit cannot be repaired, based on the home service plan coverage you selected.
