A home warranty is simple. It's a one-year service contract that covers the repair or replacement of many of the home system components and appliances that typically break down over time.

An American Home Shield Home Warranty can help you avoid the cost of repairs and replacements - but it also relieves you from the frustrations and uncertainties of finding a qualified service contractor.
When a covered item breaks down, just follow these simple steps:
- Request service online or by calling 1 866 400 2340.
- Once your request is received, one of our contractors will contact you to schedule an appointment.
- Your Trade Service Call Fee is due and payable to the contractor when they arrive.
- The contractor will diagnose the problem and contact us.
- We will determine whether your problem is covered by your home warranty plan then the contractor will repair or replace your equipment.
- We will follow up with you by email and/or phone to make sure your problem was resolved to your satisfaction.

You can choose a plan to cover many of the most frequently occurring breakdowns of home system components, appliances or both. See our home warranty plans for a complete list of over 20 major systems and appliances covered within the plans. You can also add additional items for a slightly higher cost.

You can take advantage of your home warranty as many times as you want during the term of your contract. On average, our customers make 2 service requests each year.
If we determine your covered item can't be repaired by a service contractor, it will be replaced.
Your contract term begins upon the date of contract issuance by American Home Shield and continues for one year (unless American Home Shield approves an alternative contract term) from that date.
For each service request, you will pay a Trade Service Call Fee to each contractor of a different trade (plumber, electrician, etc.) who visits your home to diagnose a problem or perform service. This fee typically will range from $75 to $125. There is the possibility of additional costs being associated with the repair or replacement of covered items. Details will be included in your contract.
Our customers asked for more flexibility. Now you can pay a higher Trade Service Call Fee and lower your annual plan price, or choose a lower Trade Service Call Fee for a slightly higher annual cost.

If you need to renew or transfer your contract, simply call 1 866 400 2340.
You may cancel your contract within the first 30 days of coverage. You will receive a refund of the paid contract fees less any service and claims costs incurred by American Home Shield. If you request cancellation after the 30th day, you will receive a pro-rated refund of the paid contract fees for the unexpired term, less an administrative fee of up to one months' payment (where permitted by law) and any service (and claims) costs incurred by American Home Shield. Terms of cancellation may vary by state.
