Before you make a service request for a repair Pro, you have the option to use video chat to troubleshoot your issue at no extra cost via the AHS app. Video chat is available to ShieldGold™ and ShieldPlatinum™ members.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can access video chat as a free member benefit if you have a ShieldGold™ or ShieldPlatinum™ plan. Simply log into the AHS app (available to download for free on the Apple App Store or Google Play). The app will prompt you to add the property tied to your plan agreement to unlock all of its features. Once your information is set up, follow these steps to start a video chat:

  1. Select Video Chat
  2. Enter the issue you need help with
  3. Start your video chat with an Expert

Video chat hours are from 8AM-9PM CST, 7 days/week. Subject to change.

No, all you need is the camera on your phone. Your phone’s camera will allow the repair Expert to see what you’re seeing and help assess the issue. It’s helpful to ensure the area is clear of any debris so you can access it easily. If you have a toolbox or any tools handy, it’s a plus to have them within reach (if you don’t have tools nearby, you can still proceed with video chat). Your Expert may help recommend any tools needed to make the repair.

If your covered item cannot be fixed using video chat, you can make a service request for in-person help. After the video chat session has ended, you’ll submit a claim and pay your service fee. The Expert you spoke to over video chat will share their notes with your assigned repair Pro, which in many cases may help speed up the repair process.

No, not all AHS members can use the video chat feature. This free member benefit is available to new and existing AHS members with ShieldGold™, ShieldPlatinum™, ShieldPlus℠ or ShieldComplete℠ plans. It’s important to note that new members must wait until their plan agreement effective date to utilize video chat or place a service request.

An AHS Expert is a vetted professional that provides real-time home repair help over video chat. A Pro is an independent, qualified professional from our network who will provide in-person help with covered items. Once you place a service request, we will assign a Pro from our network who can come get the job done.

Yes, you can video chat about issues that are not covered by your AHS home warranty plan. Simply select the Handyperson option and you can ask about home improvement projects, drywall repair, TV mounting and more.
