Installing a new sink can give your bathroom a major upgrade. If your sink leaks, drains slowly, has mold growth, or low water pressure, it may be time to replace it.
Troubleshooting Bathroom Sink Problems
There are several components to a sink, and they all have to work in harmony for a sink to function properly. If one gets out of whack, then your sink may need replacing. Below are some common bathroom sink problems.
Tailpiece Leaks. A common source of leaks. The tailpiece attaches to the P-Trap on its bottom with slip nuts and washers. Turn on the tap and watch the tailpiece (use a flashlight, if necessary). If water leaks out of the connections, book an American Home Shield ProConnect™ plumber to fix or replace.
P-Trap Leaks. P-traps are the curved connection pipes underneath the sink. They trap debris that might otherwise cause a clog with its curved design. The P-shaped curve lets water flow into the overflow pipe, but prevents it from backing up into the sink. The P-trap connects to the tailpiece and the waste arm with slip nuts and washers. To check for leaks, run water through the pipes and then observe the P-trap. If it's leaking, an American Home Shield ProConnect™ plumber can help replace the slip nuts or washers to prevent future leaks.
Waste Arm Leaks. Loose slip nuts usually cause leaks for this piece, which is connected to the P-trap and drain line. If this component becomes corroded or damaged, however, it must be replaced.
