FEMA offers a complete guide to home readiness planning at www.ready.gov. You’ll find common sense instructions for things like storing food and supplies and keeping your family in contact during an emergency.
Scan important personal documents like birth certificates, identification, bank account numbers and insurance documents and store them via a secure cloud storage service or on a secure USB drive that you can take with you in an emergency. It’s a great backup in case those documents are ever lost.
FEMA recommends that you keep sufficient food, water and supplies on hand to last at least 72 hours following a disaster. This includes prescription and over-the-counter medications. And, don’t forget pets need food and water too.
