Fourth of July Fun
Fourth of July is right around the corner, and we declare your freedom to go a little crazy with red, white and blue at your backyard barbecue.
Here’s a fun way to prevent beverage mix-ups. Have red, white and blue plastic cups available, along with patriotic-themed, self-adhesive foam stickers (available at craft shops). Each guest is invited to personalize his or her own cup. You could even have a contest for best cup design.
Kids and kids at heart will love building their own ice cream sundaes. All you need is vanilla ice cream, chopped fresh strawberries, fresh blueberries and whipped cream. Kick it up a notch with strawberry syrup and blue sprinkles.
The possibilities are endless here. For starters, if you have an American flag, by all means display it. Cover the kids’ tables with white paper, and have plenty of red and blue crayons to go around. If the festivities linger into the evening, red, white and blue votives or twinkle lights are a delight to the eyes.
If you plan to include fireworks in your celebration, safety is of the utmost importance. Be sure to check and see if your local municipality allows the use of any fireworks – even sparklers! Should this be allowed, take precautions to make sure all parties involved, both your guests and those offering to help with the fiery display, are safe.

How to Effectively Water Your Lawn
An attractive yard adds to your home’s curb appeal, and watering it correctly is essential in the warmer months. Here are a few ideas for making the most of both your water and your lawn.
Bugs: More Than Mere Pests
We all know that bugs can spread bacteria and viruses, but there is much more to this fact than the mild worries of the common cold spreading. Roaches, flies, and common household pests can play a significant role in spreading antibiotic-resistant bacteria to residential settings.
Chill Out with Ceiling Fans
In 24 hours, a standard central air conditioning unit can burn through a great deal of electricity. In the same amount of time a ceiling fan’s electric expense is less than a dime. Running a ceiling fan at medium speed for three hours costs just a penny! In fact, most ceiling fans only use about as much power as a 100W light bulb.
